Italy Confirms Rejection of Gaza Expulsions
Describing the idea as something that “is not and will never be an acceptable option,” Antonio Tajani underscored Italy’s firm stance during his address to parliament.
Tajani further highlighted the extreme nature of Israel's military retaliation following the Hamas assault on October 7, 2023.
He characterized the response as “absolutely tragic and unacceptable,” pointing to the devastating consequences it has inflicted on the civilian population.
Calling for an immediate end to violence, Tajani urged that airstrikes cease without delay.
He emphasized the urgent need to restart humanitarian support and to reestablish adherence to “international humanitarian law,” which he insisted must be respected.
Voicing alignment with Cairo’s proposal aimed at Gaza’s rehabilitation and rebuilding, Tajani reiterated his condemnation of forced displacement, stating again: "The expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza is not and will never be an acceptable option."
Since March 2, Israel has maintained the closure of border crossings into Gaza, cutting off vital supplies such as nourishment, medicine, and emergency relief.
This has drastically intensified the humanitarian emergency in the region, as outlined in reports from governmental bodies, human rights organizations, and global institutions.
Despite widespread appeals for a truce from the international community, the Israeli military has continued a relentless campaign in Gaza since October 2023.
The conflict has resulted in the deaths of more than 54,000 Palestinians, with the majority being women and children.
